Make the Switch
Overall, around 90% of premises in the Shropshire Council area have access to superfast broadband, with download speed in excess of 30mbps. Superfast broadband access is provided from a number of broadband infrastructure suppliers, including: Airband, Openreach, Secure Web Services and Virgin Media.
The Connecting Shropshire programme has contracts with Airband and Openreach that have provided over 60,000 homes and businesses with access superfast broadband (in areas that wouldn’t have been covered without public subsidy). However, only around 50% of those households/businesses that are able to connect to the new broadband network have actually chosen to do so.
We think this is partly because people assume that, once faster broadband becomes available in their area, they’ll automatically get faster speeds without having to do anything. But that’s not the case.
So you might be wondering, how do I get faster broadband then?
If you’re in an Openreach fibre optic broadband area:
Step 1: Check to see if fibre broadband is available to your property by using the checker on the following page: https://www.homeandbusiness.openreach.co.uk/fibre-broadband/when-can-i-get-fibre
Step 2: If fibre broadband is available, because the Openreach network is open to all internet service providers, we recommend that you shop around to get the best deal by using a comparison website, such as: http://www.uswitch.com/broadband/.
Step 3: You’ll then need to contact your chosen internet service provider to make the switch to fibre broadband.
If you’re in an Airband fixed wireless broadband area:
Enter your postcode at https://www.airband.co.uk/ and proceed to order if available.
If it’s not yet available to order, we suggest that you register your interest by entering your postcode on the website at https://home.airband.co.uk/coverage/, and Airband will update you as soon as more information becomes available.
